Klaus didn't leave Caroline alone that night, he watched carefully. He squatted on a tree branch, watching the scene that took place on the parking lot below him.

"What the hell Caroline?! What were you doing here with Klaus? Why was his hand in you hair like you two.."

"It was nothing like that! He was going to snap my head of! He threaten me and screamed at me.." Caroline's voice was shaking, and Klaus could hear how bad her lies were. Well, he didn't mean to threaten Caroline.. Did she take it like that? Klaus closed his eyes and started to massage his temples.

"Caroline..." Elena stepped down on the parking lot, and started to slowly walk towards Caroline. "Klaus is the enemy!"

"But what if he isn't anymore!" Caroline snapped backed at her.

"He is now and has always been! He tried to kill you!" Elena screamed back at her, and her words made Caroline silent. "Do not forget that Caroline! He is bad, evil and cruel. Even his heart is black and evil." Klaus took a firm grip on the branch he was sitting. Even though he was only holding it lightly, he could both feel and hear the cracking sound in the wood he was standing on.

"What was that?" Damon was standing in the door opening and was watching the tree Klaus was sitting in. "It sounded like.. A stick cracking?" Damon's eyes narrowed and he started to walk towards the trees. Klaus decided to sit properly on the branch and began to dangle his legs, waiting for Damon to spot him. It didn't take him long to see the original vampire sitting in the tree.

"Evening Klaus." Damon's voice had a chilly tone to it, and his smile didn't reach his eyes.

"Damon." Klaus didn't bother to say anything ells that the intruders name.

"Just chilling in the tree? Did your head get so blown up by your big ego that you couldn't stay on the ground?"

"Snap." Klaus smiled down at Damon, but he knew that not his smile reached his eyes either. He jumped down from the branch and landed jus a meter away from Damon.

"But you forget Damon, who you're talking to."

"But I didn't!" Damon winked at him and gave him a typical Damon smile, Klaus didn't like his smiles. They were so... Predictable. "I am just so surprised to see you here Klaus. Waiting for.. Oh wait, you don't even have any friends.. So who are you waiting for?"

"Damon.. Maybe we shouldn't..." Elena was observing the scene from the parking lot and she looked nervous. "Maybe we should go." She tilted her head to the car behind her, trying to make Damon come with her.

"Don't bother love." Klaus said and walked around Damon, towards the parking lot. "I'll leave. But before I do.."

And the next second, he was standing in front of Caroline. Whispering into her ear.

"How about we finish what we started?" He looked into her eyes, giving her a chance to leave. Run away. But she didn't. So, Klaus decided to do the one thing he had been thinking about since the bal at his mansion. He leaned in, placed a hand on her neck and felt her soft blond hair on his hand, and kissed her gently. Caroline froze at first, but then she took his free hand in hers and squeezed it. Returning the gentle kiss. He could hear how Elena gasped behind him. Caroline's lips were so soft, and he could smell the shampoo from her hair. A nice taste of summer strawberries. Her tongue was smooth and warm against his. When Klaus reluctantly backed away, Caroline looked into his eyes and smiled. He took her in his arms, hugged her and smelled her hair. Spinning a curl from he hair round his finger.

"Maybe we should run?" He whispered in her ear. And the next second, the parking lot was empty from both Klaus and Caroline.

Klaus stopped. He didn't even knew why he'd run away from the scene, but something inside him told him it was for the best. He was in the woods. Klaus leaned against a tree and smelled his fingers. Caroline. She was everywhere. He could smell her on his fingers, the smell of her shampoo and her. He closed his eyes and spread out his arms, and fell back into the moss on the ground. He opened his eyes and looked up at the sky. He could se the stars. Caroline. Klaus giggled like a little schoolgirl. He covered his face with his hands and. whispered into the night:

"Om my god. I'm in love."
